Why Microsoft will win E3

Microsoft is the company that launched the Kinect to worldwide success and appeal. No one seems to be talking about their E3 lineup and many people think that Nintendo and Sony will come out the premier conferences at this year’s E3. I however on the other hand believe something else and feel we are in for some bombshell announcements

There’s an age old saying that goes somewhat along the lines like this. It’s always the quiet ones that have something up there sleeve. Xbox has been very quiet as of late. What could they announce that could bring them into the limelight and steal the show from gamers everywhere? The things that they could do are announce a new console, timed exclusive stuff such as DLC and additional games. If they were to announce a new franchise from a newly founded first party studio than this will raise gamer’s attention to the company. In my opinion, I feel as though they have to announce games, games and more games because that is what gamers care about and not watching ESPN on their dashboard (well some not all). It’s an added bonus, but most people want to game.

Master Chief??
The game that started the first person franchise craze on Xbox has to make a return for anyone to care about Xbox and there E3 offerings. 343 industries must not let the chance that they have with the Halo Franchise to slip through their hands because this will be pivotal for Microsoft. What they will have to show, in a new title of the fabled Halo franchise is new gameplay mechanics that have never been seen before. Much like how Halo 1 revolutionized the first person genre this game must also do that and more.

New Footage to be see?
Last year at E3 Metal Gear Rising was shown to gamers surprise and this year it has been said that rising will not make an appearance at this year’s E3 Expo. Most people would believe that, I on the other hand do not. Much like last year when David Jaffe said they would not be showing Twisted Metal and then showed Twisted Metal. I feel as though there will be a bombshell announcement regarding the historic Metal Gear Solid franchise. An announcement along the lines of a console times exclusive demo for Xbox owners. I know that it may be a stretch but this is something that may be possible if the game has been in development for such a long time. I mean let’s be honest who wouldn’t drool over the chance to play Metal Gear Rising ;-) . Hideo Kojima may not come on stage to present the game but its presence only, will be big enough to warrant a great crowd reaction.

There was a game name fable 3 that was released last October.  The game has a Metacritic rank of 80 and has been a very good franchise for the Xbox. In a generation where traditional Rpgs are lacking or underperforming there is room. There lies room for Microsoft to continue to dig deep into the market and become a leader. I know there are a lot of Rpg fans out there that would welcome with open arms another installment in this franchise. This would of course have to fix all the issues they had with the previous installment. Since, this is a game with a great fan base announcing a new iteration at the event will do wonders for them.

The kinect has to come out hard this year and they must emphasize games that are specially made tailored toward the Kinect. When they first announced the Kinect they mentioned that it will have a lot games towards core gamers. Well in this day and age they really haven’t been doing anything with that aspect of the system. There are not many hardcore games on the connect and I am expecting this all to change at this years E3. This will be a pivotal point in their marketing strategy if they can provide core games that will bring the attention of  causal gamers and also core gamers. I also believe that there will be more of an emphasis on more health oriented games for the Kinect that will require people to get up and move to keep themselves in  good shape. Those types of games will be more so made for causal gamers as that is a ever expanding market because everyone is a causal gamer at one point.

What will they have up their sleeve this year
Lastly, the X-factor will be crucial in deciding and embedding Xbox into the minds of gamers for the end of 2011. Like how David Jaffe and Gabe Newell entered the Sony Press Conference last year to announce games that would have gamers screaming. Microsoft has to do something extravagant in order to keep up with the competition. Although Nintendo is showing their new console this year we should not count Microsoft out on showing a new console at this year’s E3. They started this Generation first with a year head start so what’s to say they haven’t been hard at work on the drawing board developing something new. Last Year they gave everyone in the audience free Xbox 360s and I have to say that doing something similar to this will not work in their favor again. Let’s look at what they could announce. A new console perhaps? The sheer mention of a new console would have the internet ablaze with speculation and potential for an upcoming console. A new revamp to the dashboard is a possible and some new additions to the Xbox live service is almost a guarantee but nothing is set in stone until June 6th @12:30 Pst
