Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Screenshots Leaked

Looks like someone got a bit too excited! Ahead of tonight's formal reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, a series of screenshots have hit the web. The three pictures, enclosed in this article, confirms that the upcoming sequel will have a futuristic setting.

Two screens show a soldier under attack by previously revealed Quadrotor drones - big military airships powered by four huge rotors - while a third sees a number of these vehicles engaging in combat against an urban environment. Things are quite clearly blowing up, too.

Visually, the game is looking rather tasty, but it's also decidedly brown. That's the future, folks. It's certainly a big jump from the Cold War era that we experienced with the first Black Ops game. Are you pleased with it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below.

Rumour: Bayonetta 2 Has Been Cancelled

Some bad news for SEGA fans everywhere - SPOnG has heard word that Bayonetta 2 has been cancelled, following the publisher's ongoing restructure.

A source familiar with the situation has told SPOnG that progress on the apparent Platinum Games sequel was halted. The game was to include a new character, in the form of a member of the US military.

While it was not possible to ascertain from our source if Bayonetta 2 had begun development internally, the detail of a potential new character would suggest that plans were at least in a pre-production design stage.

SEGA announced a dramatic restructuring of its Western consumer business last month, following a dismal performance in the last fiscal year. Redundancies hit both the European and American offices, and a number of titles were said to be cancelled internally.

It was feared that Platinum Games' projects - which have been critically well-received but have had little success commercially - would be at risk, with a rumoured sequel to Bayonetta at the top of such a list. The original game was released on Xbox 360 and PS3 in January 2010, to critical acclaim.

SPOnG has asked SEGA about the situation, to the response, "No comment."

Grand Theft Auto V

Months after the release of the first official trailer for Grand Theft Auto V, details on the game have remained fairly scarce.  Now however, information about the direction of the upcoming sequel is finally coming to light.
“The greatest thing about the franchise’s last visit to San Andreas wasn’t the action, or story, or freedom to explore a huge, detailed world,” said Leslie Benzies, long-time producer of the GTA series. “It was the game’s meticulous attention to the protagonist’s physiology. If you ate too much, your character would become fat and sluggish; if he spent a lot of time at the gym he’d get stronger. That’s the sort of thing that gets people invested, that really makes them believe in the world of the game. With Grand Theft Auto V, we’re really pushing that to the forefront to make the most exciting open-world action game/health and personal hygiene simulator ever released.”
GTA: San Andreas’ character development mechanics will be returning in even greater detail. While its predecessor’s tracking of the player’s physical condition was relatively simple, Grand Theft Auto V will have a much more detailed system. “It’s not just a matter of going to the gym, doing some button-mashing to lift some weights, and getting stronger. You’ve got to exercise all the major muscle groups- quads, lats, abdominals, everything- as well as aerobic exercise to maintain cardiovascular health. You’ll also have to maintain proper levels of hydration, have appropriate rest periods between sets, remember to wipe off the equipment afterward if you’re using an exercise machine- all the fascinating minutiae of exercise.
“The player will have tremendous freedom to choose different training options according to the sort of development they want for their own character, whether it’s weight machines, treadmills, jogging, the StairMaster, free weights, isolation exercises, deadlifts, squats, or injecting various mixtures of anabolic steroids, amphetamines, and human and animal hormones into your buttocks. You’ll have to choose wisely, of course, or you may end up with a huge upper body and little stick legs, or be unable to throw a decent punch because you’ve developed huge biceps but neglected your triceps, or become so ‘roided up that you become an acne-covered, tiny-balled, man-bosomy rageaholic or, God forbid, a Gears of Warcharacter.”
Other physical attributes of the main character will also play an important role during gameplay, requiring players to carefully monitor and manage things like their current bowel and bladder capacity, blood sugar, hair length, body odor, breath odor, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, beard length, sperm count, sun exposure and sunscreen SPF, fingernail and toenail length, blood alcohol content, risk of dangerous interactions between prescription medications, and many other important stats.
“There will be a lot of challenging minigames to really bring the character to life,” Benzies said. “Showering, shaving, applying various creams and lotions, using the toilet, brushing your teeth, changing your contact lenses, ‘taking care of business’ when your character gets lonely, and lots of others. Videogame development is a conservative industry. I’m sure there are naysayers who will insist that fans of the Grand Theft Auto series won’t want to have to periodically interrupt the game’s usual intense intense action and excitement to play minigames that revolve around mashing buttons to successfully mix a protein shake, or maintain correct posture during a shoulder press, or douse yourself in aftershave to conceal how long it’s been since you’ve showered, but we believe gamers are a lot more open to innovation than they’re given credit for.”

IGN: Battlefield 3 console versions both have Install Options for High-Res Textures

An interesting nugget of news has come out of last night's Battlefield 3 preview event in San Francisco held by EA and DICE. While speaking with GamerZines, DICE's Patrick Liu revealed that the game would allow players to install content from one disc that would let the game stream higher resolution textures.

"There's a voluntary install on the 360," Liu said to GamerZines. "I think Rage did it as well, where you can install content to stream higher res textures. We're pushing that technology to the limit, and compared to our competitors, I would argue that we're the best looking game."

IGN reached out to EA for a statement or confirmation on this additional feature, and they responded:

"Battlefield 3 for Xbox 360 ships on two disks with endless hours of spectacular high-definition gameplay; disk one features the stunning multiplayer, co-op levels and HD installation content, and disk two features the superb single-player campaign."

Additionally, we asked EA whether or not the game would offer the same feature for PS3 owners, and fortunately this seems to be the case. "The PS3 version requires the same install but it's all on the one blu-ray disk," a spokesperson for the company confirmed.

So, it appears that the game will offer support for HD installations across both platforms, resulting in better looking graphics in exchange for some HDD real estate.

Gran Turismo 5 Spec 2.0 Update Detailed. All standard cars will get an interior view. Coming October 11

Many of the new features included in the update are quite groundbreaking, and will definitely please many fans of the series. The interior view for all cars (even if simplified), the ability to save during races, especially endurance ones, the ability to rewind replays, improved AI… There’s something for everyone, even Nascar fans.
You can head past the cut for the full list.
  1. Simplified interior view added to all standard cars.
  2. User control of the weather change feature.
  3. Added a setting sheet feature allowing you to save multiple car settings.
  4. Spec 2.0 opening movie.
  5. Improved UI usability and response.
  6. Replay rewind and fast forward.
  7. Ability to save during a race
  8. Online Lounge Expansion (Ability to narrow down car types via search, shuffle races).

  15. Support for the Logitec G25/G27 Steering wheel.
Yamauchi also specified Polyphony’s plans for DLCs: they are preparing a racing car pack, a track pack and a racing gear (helmets and suits) pack.
Call me crazy, but I’m especially pleased about the addition of the Schulze Motorsport Nissan GT-R, on which Yamauchi achieved a great class victory at the Nurburgring 24h, as I reported at the beginning of summer. It was an absolutely epic race, and it’ll be a pleasure to relive it, and to be able to save in the middle.
UPDATE: Sony just announced that the Spec 2.0 patch will come on October the 11th. They also shared a few screenshots that you can see in the gallery below:

Apple chairman Steve Jobs dies at 56

SAN FRANCISCO - Steve Jobs, the innovative co-founder of Apple who transformed personal use of technology as well as entire industries with products such as the iPod, iPad, iPhone, Macintosh computer and the iTunes music store, has died.
The Apple chairman was 56.

The iconic American CEO, whose impact many have compared to auto magnate Henry Ford and Walt Disney- whom Jobs openly admired - abruptly stepped down from his position as CEO of Apple in August because of health concerns. He had been suffering from pancreatic cancer.
A seminal business and technology leader, Jobs' success flowed from a relentless focus on making products that were easy and intuitive for the average consumer to use. His products were characterized by groundbreaking design and style that, along with their technological usefulness, made them objects of intense desire by consumers around the world.
He was known as a demanding, mercurial boss and an almost mystical figure in technology circles as well as popular culture. Author and business consultant Jim Collins once called Jobs the "Beethoven of business."
He was one of the people who made Silicon Valley the capital of technological innovation and venture capital fortunes.
His creation of iTunes as an online way to purchase music digitally helped transform the music industry and delivered a blow to the standard industry practice of packaging music in albums or CDs. With iTunes, consumers could buy individual songs for 99 cents. The music industry didn't welcome the change at first, but after waging an intense battle against illegal downloads, it came to rely on the business model iTunes created.
Jobs' work at Apple and other projects made him a fortune estimated by Forbes magazine in 2011 at $8.3 billion. He was No.110 on Forbes' list of billionaires worldwide and No.34 in the United States, as of the magazine's March 2011 estimates.
Unlike tech rival Bill Gates of Microsoft or business leader Warren Buffett, Jobs did not make a practice of public philanthropy. While he may have made anonymous gifts to charity, he did not publicly embrace Gates' and Buffett's call for the wealthiest Americans to pledge to donate half their fortunes.
Jobs was married to Laurene Powell Jobs, 47. He had four children, three with Powell Jobs. A fourth child, Lisa, had an early Apple computer - a predecessor to the Macintosh - named after her. The family succeeded in keeping the children out of the spotlight and largely unknown to the public. Jobs was a Buddhist.
FACEBOOK: News10 fans react to Jobs' death
Apple, and a re-boot
Jobs dropped out of Reed College to build computers with high school friend Steve Wozniak, creating what became the Apple I computer in 1976.
As sales lagged by the 1980s, Jobs was ousted from the company's leadership in a 1985 boardroom coup led by then-Apple CEO John Sculley. He returned in 1996 after Apple bought his technology start-up, NeXT, for $400 million. Within months, Jobs took over as Apple CEO for the ousted Gil Amelio and led a major corporate turnaround.
Five years later, with the release of the iPod personal digital music player, Apple had leaped from computer maker to become the leading consumer electronics giant worldwide.
Millions of its computers and gadgets were produced in Asia and sold to U.S. and worldwide markets, making the company one of the most recognizable and beloved brand names ever.
Once on the brink of a financial abyss, Apple had a market value of $350 billion - not far behind No.2 Exxon Mobil - by the time Jobs resigned as CEO.
After his forced departure from Apple, Jobs bought what became Pixar from filmmaker George Lucas. The digital animation movie company has produced box-office hits including Toy Story and Finding Nemo. Disney bought the company for $7.4 billion in 2006. Jobs held a 7.3% ownership stake in Disney.
Health concerns
He was known for creating a culture of secrecy at Apple that fueled intense media speculation about the company's next product. Jobs himself introduced major products with flair at highly anticipated events that proved to be one of the company's best marketing tools.
Jobs didn't hesitate to level caustic comments at competitors, particularly Microsoft in earlier years and later Google, which he ridiculed as evil, mediocre and lacking in taste. His skewering of Microsoft was parodied in a series of TV ads featuring the characters "Mac" and "PC."
Jobs was known for firing employees in profanity-laced tantrums and reducing some subordinates to tears. Yet many of his top deputies at Apple and Pixar worked with him for years.
Jobs is listed as an inventor or co-inventor on 313 Apple patents, including the iPod's user interface.
Although he brought simple, elegant technology to the masses, the reclusive Jobs was often uncomfortable around people and rarely spoke publicly. On rare occasions when he spoke with reporters, he offered few or no personal insights.
His reluctance to appear in public led to questions about his health, as did a dramatic loss in weight and gaunt appearance.
Jobs was diagnosed with a form of pancreatic cancer in 2003. He informed Apple employees in 2004.
"No one wants to die," he said in a commencement speech at Stanford University in 2005. "And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it."
Jobs' status as a corporate star put him on the covers of Time, Fortune and Forbes.
"Jobs led an enormous cultural shift of the businessman as a creative, even artistic, force," says Alan Deutschman, author of The Second Coming of Steve Jobs.
"When Jobs first came on the scene, it wasn't cool to be in business," Deutschman says. "Through the 1970s, the Dow hardly moved. Being in business was seen as being a total sellout. But Jobs was young and glamorous, and gave business that image. Now, young people aspire to be in business."
The early years
Steven Paul Jobs was born in San Francisco on Feb. 24, 1955, to unwed parents. He was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs of Mountain View, Calif.
The young Jobs contacted William Hewlett, co-founder of Hewlett-Packard, to ask for parts for a class project. Impressed, Hewlett offered Jobs a summer internship.
Upon graduating from Homestead High School in Cupertino, Calif., in 1972, Jobs briefly went to Reed College in Portland, Ore. After a stint as a video-game designer at Atari, Jobs trekked to India in 1974, where he embraced Eastern culture and religion. Shortly after that, he lived in a commune in California.
In 1975, Jobs began hanging out with the Homebrew Computer Club and a friend from high school, Steve Wozniak. Jobs, then 21, and Wozniak - the "two Steves," as they became known - co-founded Apple Computer in Jobs' parents' garage in 1976.
By 25, Jobs was a millionaire. His first go-round at Apple was highlighted by the creation and introduction, in 1984, of the Macintosh, a revolutionary personal computer with an inviting graphical user-interface and mouse that popularized PCs for the masses.
The influence of the Beatles ran deep to Apple's core, too. Jobs presented a Mac to Yoko Ono, wife of the late John Lennon, and was ensnared in a long-running trademark lawsuit with the music group's Apple Corps label. It was settled in 2007.
In a 1996 interview in San Francisco, Jobs offered a glimpse of his hopes to mirror the success of Walt Disney and George Lucas. "Computers are commodities with a six-month shelf life," he said. "Classics like Snow White and Fantasia are passed from generation to generation."
Wozniak said Apple is a reflection of Jobs' creative daring.
"He helped it achieve incredible things in music, smartphones, tablets and retail, while still making great computers," said Wozniak, who said he and Jobs occasionally talk.
Leander Kahney, author of Inside Steve's Brain, said Jobs reconciled conflicting personality traits into an eclectic business philosophy.
"Jobs embraced the personality traits that some considered flaws - narcissism, perfectionism, total faith in his intuition - to lead Apple and Pixar to triumph against steep odds," Kahney says. "In the process, he became a self-made billionaire."

Fifa 12 Review

Thankfully, FIFA 12 has not innovated simply for the sake of it. The gameplay innovations greatly improve the way FIFA plays. Matches unfold with a more authentic tempo, taking it much closer to the real thing. Revolution? Evolution? Who really cares. More importantly, is FIFA 12 the best football game in the world? I don't think so. But I'd put it in my top one.

DigitalFoundry - Face-Off: Dark Souls

DigitalFoundry writes: Fantasy games are rarely so horrifying as Dark Souls can be, and it's a pleasure to see another take on the same visual references put forward by Demon's Souls just two years ago. Although the world of Boletaria has been exchanged for Lordran, much remains the same. The long bridges guarded by red wyverns and undead hoplites still show From Software's love of old Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, and the winding, eldritch castle passageways continue to succeed in baiting the reckless gallivant into an untimely end, while rewarding the more patient, methodical player.

Drak Souls GameSpot Review

Any game can deliver a few cheap scares. It takes a special one to terrify you. Dark Souls is such a game. It's a thoughtful, atmospheric, and mysterious role-playing adventure that challenges your mind and your mettle. It takes the concepts of deadly environments and unflinching difficulty introduced by 2009's infamously tough Demon's Souls and cranks up the challenge, the fear, the frustration, and the eventual triumph. Dark Souls' enormous world is vast and dangerous, filled with terrifying fire demons and homicidal lizardmen, all with a single goal: to annihilate you. And so you die, over and over again, as you make your way through this strikingly fearsome land. But in Dark Souls, death and resurrection is a core mechanic, not a roadblock, and because the combat is so precise, you ultimately feel in control of your destiny. Dark Souls plays by its own rules, and in doing so, provides an unforgettable adventure that seeps into your being and invades your thoughts. It's a landmark game, destined to be loved and talked about by anyone who has the pleasure of unraveling its mysteries.

Dark Souls IGN Review

The reviewer's job is difficult when it comes to a game like Dark Souls. I simply can't unreservedly recommend that you buy it. It's not a game that you play to relax. It doesn't care in the slightest about whether you're enjoying yourself, and it doesn't give a fig for your notions of entertainment or your mental well-being. If you just play games for fun, this isn't for you, and no amount of insistence on my part is going to change that. But if you're interested in the limits of the videogame form – to see just how focused, how pure and how uncompromising in its vision a game can be – Dark Souls is unmissable. If you take the time get into Dark Souls' mindset, to begin to understand the twisted way in which it operates and taste the rewards behind its cruellest challenges, this is one of the most thrilling, most fascinating and most completely absorbing experiences in gaming.

X-Men Destiny Review

Flawed and short, but still a good time.
With virtually no publicity and very little info X-Men: Destiny soars onto retail shelves without many people noticing. Activision has had a successful run with Professor X’s mutants over the past two generations, and a lot of people were expecting yet another Marvel Ultimate Alliance out of the collaboration with Silicon Knights. Instead, what we end up with is a straight-up action game with some light RPG elements that is designed to be played through multiple times. The core experience may be too short for some, but what is here is definitely enjoyable, especially if you are a fan of the X-Men.
The story follows an alternate path from the comics where Professor X is dead and Cyclops and the rest of the X-Men are trying to keep peace with the humans. Of course, Magneto and his Brotherhood are keeping things on the verge of chaos. The game begins at a peace rally that is quickly broken up with an attack that the X-Men assume is Magento. This is where you come in. The game offers you a choice of three characters; each one has their own back story and is just coming to grips with their powers.

Once you decide on an avatar, the game quickly jumps to you getting to choose one of three powers. This is where part of the replay comes in. You have a melee option that hardens your fists to stone, projectile-based electricity and Shadow Matter, which is basically using your aura as a weapon. Think smoke monster from LOST that can fabricate blades. Each power is unique and really differentiates the combat, making a second play through worthwhile. At certain points in the story you will gain access to new abilities for each power. You get to choose between two different options at these points, and it really fleshes out the gameplay. I definitely wanted to play again just to see how things change up. In addition, you can also collect X-Genes, which you can equip up to three of. Each one offers various powers based on characters within the world. For example, your dodge move can be changed to add Surge’s electricity. Collecting these is fun, and seeing how they fare in battle lets you choose how you want to play. You can also level up some of these X-Genes in addition to your main powers, which is truly the only RPG aspect in the entire game. You collect XP from fallen enemies and use it to power up these abilities, but outside of deciding which ones to level up, the RPG elements are soft. Still, there are lots of incentives to play again, which is what I think the game was designed for.
The core of the game is action, so much that it almost feels inspired by classic beat ‘em ups as opposed to the action RPGs we are used to nowadays. Button mashing will take you far, though there are some nice combos that deal with foes much quicker. Enemies are pretty brainless and run at you like lemmings, or just stand there and let you beat them down. Areas mostly consist of defeat X number of enemies before moving on, which really makes the gameplay a little stale. Boss battles do break it up from time to time, but even a lot of those boil down to mashing a button over and over, rinse and repeat. While it may sound disappointing, I want to note that I played through the entire game in one sitting my first time through. That may sound like a downside, but I actually was having a lot of fun, which is probably why I kept playing. Destiny walks a slippery slope, but that doesn’t detract from its entertainment value.

As you make your way through the game, you will run into a plethora of X-Men characters from both sides of the fence. At times it almost feels like cameo theater. You will, of course see staples such as Emma Frost, Juggernaut and Nightcrawler, but you will also see plenty of obscure characters such as Pixie, Caliban and Northstar. The game loves to throw plenty of faces at you. There is a dialogue system in the game, but to be honest it really doesn’t change the story much. You can opt to follow separate paths and choose to side with the X-Men or the Brotherhood, but most of the choices are there simply for you to gain more info if you so choose.

As I said earlier, the game is relatively short. My first run clocked in at around five hours, but there truly is a lot to come back for. Each character’s story varies slightly, and seeing both sides of the X-Men conflict is definitely cool. There are collectibles in the game, but they are really only bios of characters. There are also propaganda posters to tear down, correlating to Achievements/Trophies. There is also a host of Challenge Rooms that you can dig into if you so choose. Seeing all three powers is the real reason to come back though, and honestly, the game is just mindless fun at times. Sure, the enemies are pretty dumb and more fodder than anything else, but that is also what it probably feels like to be a superhero. Visually, the game stutters more often than not with some lackluster environments and mediocre character animations. Funny enough, the one thing I loved was the overlays for objectives. When you have a specific thing to do it pops up on the screen in 3D and you can move around it. It is a subtle but really cool touch that adds to the comic book feel. The music is forgettable and the voice acting is hit and miss. I swore the entire game that Nolan North voiced Cyclops, which if he didn’t, that guy is a dead ringer. The cast is up and down with some decent performances as well as some truly atrocious ones. Overall, the presentation is lacking and doesn’t really stand out in any fashion.
X-Men Destiny is a good game that stumbles over its own shortcomings. It is hard to recommend shelling out $60 for a game that feels this shallow, unless you are a die-hard X-Men fan. The action is fun, if not monotonous, and there is simply nothing special about it at all. Still, I had fun the entire time I was playing the game, and that speaks volumes in my book. If you have a special place in your heart for these mutants, it might be worth your time. Just know what you are getting into before laying down the cash.

+ Great fan service
+ Three powers to choose from
+ Action is well done

- Fairly short
- Dialog choices are useless
- Lacking in presentation

Battlefield 3 beta attracts 12 million

Battlefield 3 beta attracts 12 million.

The currently on-going beta testing of Battlefield 3 has proven to be massively successful for EA and DICE. In the second beta update on the series official blog, general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson says that DICE is seeing “6 times the number of simultaneous players in the Battlefield 3 Open Beta compared to the Beta for Battlefield: Bad Company 2!”
The public beta kicked off less than a week ago.
To compare, the Bad Company 2 sampler early last year was downloaded 2 million times in its first 5 days of availability.
The blog post also reiterates that the main purpose for the beta is to stress test the servers and backend, and that the game on show is based over a month old code, so bugs are to be expected; “the code you are now playing is actually quite early and not representative of the final game.”
“The final game will look, play and sound better than the Open Beta. You have helped making sure of that.”
