New Rainbow Six Game to be announced at E3 2011?

It seems like Ubisoft may have been working on the title for some time now, despite the silence the publisher has kept. (E3, PC, PS3, Ubisoft, Xbox 360)

The critically acclaimed tactical first person shooter, Rainbow Six, developed most recently by Ubisoft Montreal is set to make it's return in a completely different setting then where it last was based, Las Vegas.

It seems like Ubisoft may have been working on the title for some time now, despite the silence the publisher has kept.

There were rumors about a sound designer, Sean Popejoy, who had reportedly "Developed Pro Tools sessions from Ubisoft audio for the game demo of Rainbow Six (2011)", according to his LinkedIn profile/resume.

Then there was the rumor that came up back in September 2009 when Ubisoft Entertainment claimed the domain name, Rainbowsix-bd.com, hinting that the game may be titled Rainbow Six BD. However it has since been pointed out that Rainbow Six BD is actually not the title of the latest Rainbow Six game, but rather a reference to a series of possible Rainbow Six comics. The "BD" term is an abbreviation of the French term "bande dessinee", which translates as "comics". Apparently Ubisoft also registered domains for Rayman-BD.com, Rabbids-BD.com, and Redsteel-BD.com on the same day as registering RainbowSix-BD.com, which does suggest that the domain is in fact referring to a Rainbow Six comic rather than a possible title for a new game.

The most recent unconfirmed news on a new Rainbow Six title though is the most promising. It comes straight from Kotaku.com where they once again leaked information on a new title that was apparently going to be announced at E3 2011. In there article they claim the next Rainbow Six game, no title as of yet, is set to take place in and around New York City.

They claim to have heard, "the game will in many ways be a departure from the sameness found in Rainbow Six: Vegas and its sequel, and a return to what helped separate the shooter from others of its ilk."

This new Rainbow Six is said to be a far more story-driven game than previous iterations. The game will tell a bigger, much more gritty cinematic story than previous versions of the game that is based around stopping a homegrown terrorist group operating in America. These terrorists are fed up with the greed of Wall Street and the government that acts to protect them and decide to target New York City.

That's about it for rumored information on the new Rainbow Six game but with all the rumors combined and it being a few years since the last released game in this highly successful and popular franchise, I think it's a strong indicator that Ubisoft is going to make an imminent announcement that the next Rainbow Six title is in the works at this year's E3 2011.
